Founded back in 2010 to promote Italian wines paired with Chef Donato’s authentic Italian cuisine, Enoteca 100 had to resort to its virtual form last year, but now it has returned in all its glory to in-person tastings, overflowing with the winemakers’ and chefs’ creativity, and aptly titled “ENOTECA100 – Il Ritorno! Barolo, Brunello, Amarone, Bubbles and a few more.”
More than 100 wines, vintages 2010 through 2020, ranging in price from $18 (Francone Grignolino 2019, Paolo Scavino Langhe Bianco 2018) to $555 (Gaja Barbaresco Costa Russi 2016) were poured at individual stations, located throughout the multi-room restaurant space and at the newly-built spacious patio, specifically created for outdoor dining, and offered for sale at 10% off for 6-bottle cases.
Food pairings of house-cured meats, cheeses, smoked salmon, chicken liver pate, bruschetta, arancini, mushroom pastry, grilled shrimp, and the oven-roasted porchetta were provided by Chef Donato and his good friend and partner Gianluca Guglielmi, an executive chef at the popular Berkeley restaurant, Donato & Co.
Donato Enoteca is located at 1041 Middlefield Rd., Redwood City, California. For more information call 650-701-1000 or visit https://www.donatorestaurantgroup.com.

An industry conversation, “Portuguese Wines and the American Consumer”, led by Eugénio Jardim, Wines of Portugal US Ambassador, presented Peter Granoff, Master Sommelier, and Telmo Faria, Chef/Owner and Wine Director of Uma Casa, a Portuguese restaurant in San Francisco.

The following walk-around tasting showcased 25 producers and 250 grape varieties recognized around the world for their high quality and authenticity. Some amazingly light and refreshing whites from Vinho Verde, Alentejo’s bold reds and time-honored Madeira wines competed for the attendees’ attention with wonderful elixirs from Porto e Douro, multiple grape expressions of Lisboa area, and young wines from Tejo and Dao e Lafoes.
The best part of this Portuguese wine extravaganza remains the fact that many of the exquisite wines are readily available in the U.S. retail, affordable, and can be bought in many San Francisco wine and specialty stores. Find out more at: www.winesofportugal.com.
